June 28, 2026

Pioneer News Service
Ranchi

The southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly across Jharkhand and is expected to cover the remaining parts of the state within the next two to three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office has also forecast a drop of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures over the next five days, bringing significant relief from the prevailing heat.

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several parts of the state during the past 24 hours. Daltonganj remained the hottest location with a maximum temperature of 40.7 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius.

Among rainfall observations, Sikatia in Deoghar district received the highest rainfall at 54 mm, followed by Kolebira (40.2 mm), Papunki (30.8 mm), Noamundi (23.6 mm) and Rajdhanwar (23.2 mm).

The IMD has issued a weather warning for June 28, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph across most parts of the state, except Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra and Latehar districts.

On June 30, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely across the entire state. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur and Sahibganj districts.

For July 1, the weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Ranchi, Bokaro, Khunti, Ramgarh, Dhanbad, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur and Sahibganj districts.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms, avoid open areas during lightning, and follow official weather advisories as monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
