The Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) organized a one-day workshop on “Ensuring Compliance: Navigating the New Labour Regulations” at the Seminar Hall of the Vivekanand Central Library on Friday. The workshop aimed to familiarize university officials with the latest labour laws notified by the Government of India and to promote effective statutory compliance across various administrative sections.
The programme began with the inaugural address by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sarang Medhekar. Addressing the participants, he emphasized that the success of an educational institution depends not only on academic excellence but also on transparent, efficient, and legally compliant administration. He said that the new labour codes safeguard employees’ rights while strengthening institutional accountability. He urged all officials to understand the new legal provisions thoroughly and implement them effectively in their day-to-day administrative work.
The Registrar, in his address, stated that the University is fully committed to protecting employees’ welfare and ensuring strict compliance with government regulations. He noted that regular capacity-building programmes help officials stay updated with changing laws and improve administrative efficiency. He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop in their respective departments for better governance and institutional effectiveness.
The workshop featured K.C. Sahu, Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Asansol, as the keynote resource person. He delivered detailed sessions on the Code on Wages, 2019 and the Code on Social Security, 2020, explaining their key provisions, statutory requirements, and practical implementation. He also interacted with the participants during an engaging question-and-answer session.
The second technical session was conducted by Dr. Pragyan Pushpanjali, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, CUJ, who explained the important provisions of the Industrial Relations Code, 2020 and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. She highlighted the importance of ensuring a safe workplace and complying with labour laws in higher educational institutions.
Officials from the General Administration, Finance & Accounts, Office of DSW, Purchase, Engineering, Estate, Legal Cell, and Security Office actively participated in the workshop. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, and participants described the workshop as highly informative, practical, and beneficial for strengthening statutory compliance within the University.
