Loyola community comes together for ‘Gift of Life’ Blood Donation Camp

Demonstrating its enduring commitment to compassion, service and community welfare, Loyola School, in collaboration with the Loyola Alumni Association (LAA), organised its annual blood donation camp at St. Joseph’s Hall on Saturday.
Held from 9.30 am to 1 pm, the camp was organised in honour of the school’s patron, St. Ignatius of Loyola, and brought together students’ parents, teachers, alumni, school officials and members of the wider Loyola community for a common cause — helping patients in need of life-saving blood.
The camp received an overwhelming response, with more than 100 volunteers from the Loyola community and well-wishers coming forward with the noble intention of donating blood. Following the necessary medical screening, 71 units of blood were successfully collected.
The programme began with a prayer led by Rector Fr. Michael T. Raj, who highlighted the importance of selfless service and compassion. He urged members of the Loyola fraternity to translate the values of care and service into meaningful action for society.
The event was attended by Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Vice-Principals Jayanthi Sheshadri and Vineeta F. Ekka of the Senior and Junior sections respectively, Senior Section Coordinator Victoria Prasad, teachers, LAA officials, executive members, alumni and other members of the Loyola community.
The blood donation drive was formally inaugurated with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, marking the beginning of the collection process.
The initiative also received the support of senior medical professionals from MGM Medical College and Hospital. Dr. Sahir Pal, Civil Surgeon, East Singhbhum, Dr. Balram Jha, Superintendent, MGM College and Hospital, and Dr. Emanuel Sorren, Head of the Blood Centre, MGM, were present on the occasion. The medical professionals were welcomed and felicitated by the Loyola School management.
The camp reflected Loyola’s educational philosophy of “Being Men and Women for Others”, with members of the school and alumni community coming forward to contribute towards a cause that can directly save lives.
Organisers said the annual blood donation initiative has become an important part of Loyola’s social outreach and community service efforts. It also provided an opportunity for different generations of Loyoleans to come together and reinforce their bond through an act of service.
