Youth climbs train roof at Tatanagar, suffers severe electric shock

Panic briefly gripped Tatanagar Railway Station on Monday after a 30-year-old man suffered an electric shock and fell from the roof of a stationary Tata-Danapur train after coming into contact with a high-tension overhead electric (OHE) wire.

The injured youth was identified as Sagu Ram. According to eyewitnesses, he climbed onto the roof of a coach while the train was stationed at the platform, despite warnings from passengers and bystanders.

Witnesses said Sagu Ram reportedly told people that he wanted to walk from one end of the train to the other along the roof. He then began moving across the coach, apparently unaware of the serious danger posed by the electrified railway infrastructure overhead.

While walking on the roof, he came into contact with the OHE wire and suffered a powerful electric shock. The impact threw him from the train, causing him to fall to the ground.

The incident triggered panic among passengers and railway employees, who rushed towards the spot. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and others immediately responded and arranged for the injured man to be taken to a nearby hospital.

Doctors said Sagu Ram suffered burn injuries in the incident. His condition was reported to be stable, though he remains under observation and treatment.

Railway officials and security personnel reached the spot and began collecting details. They are also examining how the youth managed to climb onto the train roof despite security arrangements.

The incident once again highlighted the dangers of climbing onto train roofs at electrified stations. Railway OHE wires carry extremely high voltage and can cause fatal injuries even without direct contact.
