‘Veer Naris’ honoured at Gopal Maidan on Independence Day

Veer Naris, the brave women who lost their husbands in the service of the nation, were honoured at Gopal Maidan on Saturday as East Singhbhum celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour. The main district-level ceremony also saw commendation certificates presented to officials and personnel for outstanding work in education, health, sports and policing, while participating parade contingents were honoured for their performances.

Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan unfurled the Tricolour, saluted the national flag and inspected the parade at the ceremony. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Ehtesham Waquarib, Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan, SP (Rural), SP (City), JNAC Municipal Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner and other senior officials of the district administration and police were present.

Addressing the gathering, Ranjan extended Independence Day greetings to the people of East Singhbhum and paid tribute to freedom fighters, national leaders and martyrs whose sacrifices contributed to India’s independence and nation-building.

He said Jharkhand’s soil bears testimony to a rich legacy of courage, struggle, sacrifice and people’s participation. Independence Day, he added, is not only an occasion to remember the sacrifices of the past but also a reminder of the responsibilities of every citizen towards the nation.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need to strengthen unity, integrity and democratic values and ensure that the benefits of government schemes and welfare facilities reach the last person in society. He stressed the importance of quality education for children, opportunities for youth and greater participation and self-reliance among women.

Ranjan also outlined the development works and achievements of East Singhbhum in sectors including health, education, rural development, JSLPS, social welfare, social security, civil supplies, ITDA and welfare, drinking water and sanitation, agriculture, animal husbandry, labour, urban bodies, revenue, transport and election-related operations.

The parade competition added to the patriotic atmosphere. Rangers (girls) secured the first position, Scouts (boys) finished second and Guides (girls) stood third. The winning contingents were honoured with medals.

The national flag was also unfurled at several government offices across the district. Ranjan hoisted the Tricolour at the Deputy Commissioner’s residential office, the Collectorate and the Red Cross building. SSP Dr Ehtesham Waquarib unfurled the flag at the SSP’s residential office, SSP office and Police Lines.

Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan hoisted the Tricolour at the ITDA office, while Dhalbhum SDO Arnav Mishra and Ghatshila SDO Amitabh Bhagat unfurled the national flag at their respective Sub-Divisional Offices.

Deputy Director (Public Relations) and District Public Relations Officer Panchanan Oraon hoisted the Tricolour at the District Public Relations Office. Similar ceremonies were held at district-level offices, block headquarters, schools and other educational institutions across East Singhbhum.
