Stepping up its offensive against the Centre’s legislative moves, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday sounded the bugle for a statewide mass agitation against the contentious Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. Convening an extensive district-level cadre meet at City Garden in Dumka, senior party leaders and key legislators came together to formulate a decisive strategy, warning that any encroachment on the state’s natural resources and federal autonomy would meet fierce resistance on the ground.
Addressing party workers, senior functionaries condemned the swift passage of the amendment bill in both houses of Parliament, alleging that the Centre bypassed meaningful dialogue with stakeholders and mineral-rich states. Labelling the legislation an unjust “black law,” leaders emphasized that the amendments directly compromise the rights of the indigenous population and jeopardize Jharkhand’s economic sovereignty. The gathering unanimously affirmed that the party would not yield to central pressure and would mobilize communities across the state to defend their land and mineral wealth.
The conclave drew high-profile representation from the Santhal Pargana region, led by Dumka Lok Sabha MP Nalin Soren, Jama MLA Dr. Louis Marandi, and Shikaripara MLA Alok Kumar Soren. Zilla Parishad Chairperson Joyce Besra, District President Shiv Kumar Baskey, District Secretary Nishit Baran Goldar, District Spokesperson Abdus Salam Ansari, Mahila Morcha President Sunita Marandi, District Secretary Sabita Tudu, and Central Committee Member Rajesh Kumar Singh were also among the key figures present alongside block-level office bearers. Wrapping up the deliberations, the leadership administered a solemn pledge to every active cadre to take the campaign from village squares to the state capital in defense of Jharkhand’s regional interests.
