A meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Committee was held at the Collectorate auditorium on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner Piyush Sinha to review the progress of drinking water supply schemes in the district.
Sinha directed officials to ensure 100 per cent household coverage under the Nal-Jal scheme and expedite pending works under Single Village Scheme (SVS) and Multi Village Scheme (MVS). He specifically stressed ensuring drinking water supply in all Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) and DA-JGUA villages, as well as schools and Anganwadi centres.
Officials were instructed to prepare updated lists of households left out of SVS and MVS coverage and connect them with tap water on priority. The DDC also sought detailed lists of incomplete schemes and directed that pending works be completed within stipulated timelines.
The meeting further directed officials to identify villages and tolas where existing schemes were failing to provide adequate or regular water supply. Physical verification of such locations would be undertaken, followed by corrective measures and alternative drinking water arrangements wherever necessary.
Sinha also called for regular field inspections and monitoring of schemes, with strict instructions against negligence in their operation and maintenance. Officials were asked to ensure water quality and time-bound redressal of drinking water complaints.
The meeting also called for Jal Arpan programmes in rural areas to promote awareness about water conservation and proper use of drinking water schemes. Officials were directed to work at the grassroots level to achieve ODF Plus targets under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Senior district officials, engineers, block officials and coordinators attended the meeting.
