Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday underlined the need for affordable, quality and compassionate healthcare while addressing the 69th Foundation Day celebration of Nagarmal Modi Seva Sadan in Ranchi.
The Governor said medical services should not be limited to treating diseases but must also uphold human dignity, compassion and social responsibility. He stressed the importance of institutions that provide accessible and affordable treatment to economically weaker and needy sections of society.
Recalling the hospital’s journey, Gangwar said the institution, which began as a small maternity home in 1958, has grown into a multispecialty hospital over nearly seven decades. He attributed its progress to sustained service, dedication, public support and hard work.
He said a hospital’s identity is not defined merely by its infrastructure, modern equipment or technology. Patients arrive with pain, anxiety and hopes of recovery, making respectful and sensitive treatment equally important. He appreciated the hospital’s guiding message of “low cost, proper treatment and right behaviour”, saying it reflected the importance of affordability, quality and humanity in healthcare.
Gangwar said initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat have sought to improve healthcare access for economically weaker families. He urged the institution to maintain the trust it has earned among people in Ranchi and adjoining areas by prioritising treatment quality, patient safety, cleanliness and humane behaviour.
He also called for greater use of modern technology, specialised services, training and research to meet changing healthcare needs.
Earlier, the Governor visited the hospital’s community dialysis department and interacted with patients undergoing treatment, enquiring about their health and treatment. He wished them a speedy recovery.
Gangwar also praised the doctors, nurses, technical staff and other employees for their collective contribution to the hospital’s functioning and expressed confidence that Seva Sadan would continue its tradition of affordable and quality healthcare.
