The hashtag #JharkhandWithMMDR, launched by the Jharkhand BJP in support of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, has emerged as the number-one trending hashtag on social media across the country, according to the party.
The BJP described the digital response as evidence of widespread public support for the MMDR Act and said Jharkhand’s mineral resources were the property of the people and should be utilised transparently and in the public interest.
BJP state general secretary Amar Kumar Bauri said the nationwide trend was not merely a digital campaign but reflected public sentiment on the issue. He claimed the response showed that people supported development, transparency and public welfare rather than what he termed attempts by opposition parties to mislead them.
Bauri said Jharkhand, being rich in mineral resources, should focus on their transparent and efficient utilisation. He pointed out that the MMDR Act was a national law and not one specifically framed against Jharkhand.
He claimed that mineral revenue of states had increased by around 354 per cent between 2014 and 2026 and argued that discussions on mining policy should be based on facts, outcomes and long-term economic impact.
“Jharkhand’s development will not come from stopping the use of its mineral resources, but from ensuring their transparent and better utilisation,” Bauri said.
He said the BJP would launch an awareness campaign highlighting the provisions and impact of the MMDR Act and would respond to what it described as misinformation being spread by opposition parties. The party also stressed the need to curb illegal mining and ensure that mineral wealth generates greater employment, development and public welfare in Jharkhand.
