With the monsoon season approaching, East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan reviewed pre-monsoon preparedness with officials of urban local bodies at a meeting held in the Collectorate.
The review focused on sanitation, drainage management, drinking water supply, prevention of waterlogging, and emergency response measures across urban areas of the district. Officials were directed to complete all necessary preparations in advance, including regular cleaning of drains and ensuring that drainage channels remain functional and free from obstructions to prevent flooding during heavy rainfall.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the status of drinking water infrastructure and instructed officials to inspect supply networks and complete pending repair and maintenance work to ensure uninterrupted water supply during the rainy season.
Special attention was given to areas that have witnessed waterlogging over the past three years. Officials were asked to prioritize long-term solutions for recurring flood-prone locations to minimize disruption and enhance public safety.
To strengthen emergency preparedness, urban local bodies were directed to constitute Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and widely publicize toll-free helpline numbers for reporting rain-related grievances and emergencies.
Considering the possibility of flooding in areas along the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers, officials were also instructed to identify community centres and government buildings that could serve as temporary shelters and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place.
The meeting was attended by senior district and municipal officials, including representatives of JUSCO and various urban local bodies.
