MMC cracks down on garbage dumping, gears up for flood preparedness

June 24, 2026

Pioneer News Service

Jamshedpur

The Mango Municipal Corporation has launched a strict cleanliness and flood-preparedness drive ahead of the monsoon season to address garbage dumping and waterlogging in the city. Acting on the directions of Additional Municipal Commissioner Jitendra Kumar Yadav, a special inspection campaign was carried out against individuals dumping garbage and cow dung at road intersections, public places and in drains. During the drive, officials imposed fines on violators and collected Rs. 2,000 in penalties.

Food and Sanitary Inspectors Vikas Kumar and Sanjay Kumar inspected several areas under the municipal corporation’s jurisdiction and appealed to residents to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness. They urged citizens to hand over waste only to the door-to-door garbage collection vehicles and avoid dumping trash in public places or drains, which often leads to choking and waterlogging during heavy rains.

The municipal administration has also directed officials to conduct daily inspection drives and continue imposing fines on those violating sanitation rules.

Meanwhile, the corporation has begun extensive preparations to deal with possible flood situations during the rainy season. A special team of officials and staff has been constituted to monitor vulnerable riverside areas, ensure basic facilities at relief camps, conduct public announcements through miking and shift residents to safer locations if floodwaters threaten settlements.

Municipal officials said all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure a quick and effective response in case of any monsoon-related disaster, while also emphasizing that public cooperation is crucial for keeping Mango clean, safe and prepared during the rainy season.
