PVUNL Achieves Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) of Unit-2 (800 MW)
Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a Joint Venture of NTPC Limited and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL), has achieved a significant milestone with the successful declaration of Commercial Operation (COD) of its Unit-2 (800 MW) on 25th June 2026. This marks another major step towards strengthening the power generation capacity of Jharkhand and the nation. The foundation stone of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project was laid by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
With the successful commissioning and commercial operation of Unit-2, PVUNL has further enhanced its contribution towards ensuring reliable, affordable, and sustainable power supply to the state of Jharkhand and other beneficiary states.
Notably, with the successful COD of Unit-2, PVUNL has added 1600 MW of generation capacity within a span of just seven months through the commissioning of Unit-1 and Unit-2. This remarkable achievement reflects the exceptional execution capability, technical excellence, and dedication of Team PVUNL and all stakeholders associated with the project. The milestone significantly strengthens the energy security of Jharkhand and the nation while contributing to meeting the country’s growing power demand.
Shri A.K. Sehgal, CEO, PVUNL; Shri Anupam Mukherjee, Executive Director (Project); Shri Manish Khetrapal, GM (O&M); Shri J.C. Patra, GM (Operation & Commissioning); Shri Bishnu Dutta Dash, GM (Project); and Shri O.P. Solanki, GM (Maintenance & Ash Dyke Management), were present during the celebration of this historic achievement.
Expressing his happiness on the occasion, Shri A.K. Sehgal, CEO, PVUNL, congratulated all employees, engineers, workers, vendors, associates, and partner organizations who contributed tirelessly towards the successful completion of the unit.
Shri Sehgal also conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Management of NTPC, the Government of Jharkhand, district administration, regulatory authorities, project partners and all stakeholders for their continuous support, guidance, and cooperation throughout the project journey.
He further acknowledged the support of the local community and project-affected families, emphasizing that their trust and cooperation have been instrumental in the successful execution of the project. He added that PVUNL is undertaking focused initiatives towards skill development of youth and women, livelihood enhancement, and community development to ensure inclusive growth in the region.
The achievement of Unit-2 COD reinforces PVUNL’s commitment to operational excellence, environmental sustainability, and responsible power generation. The company continues to adopt advanced technologies, innovative practices, and environmentally sustainable solutions while contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
The successful COD of Unit-2 is expected to significantly strengthen power availability and support the growing energy requirements of Jharkhand and the country.
