The bail petition of five persons, including former Chief Secretary and former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte—who is currently jailed in connection with alleged irregularities in the JPSC examination—was held in the special CID court. The CID submitted the case diary to the court.
The public prosecutor requested time to study the case diary and file a response. Following this, the court set the next hearing date for Tuesday (September 1). Senior advocate Anil Kumar and advocate Chandana Kumari represented Khiangte in court.
Those whose bail petitions are being heard include L. Khiangte, Pawan Singh, Shweta Gupta, Abhay Tiwari, and Saurabh Suman. Notably, the CID arrested L. Khiangte on August 10. During the investigation, Khiangte was accused of allegedly taking a commission of ₹2 crore from TDPL.
It is worth noting that the CID has registered Case No. 16/2026 regarding the examination irregularities. The agency arrested L. Khiangte during the investigation of this case. He was interrogated after being taken into police remand, and has been jailed since then. More than 20 people have been arrested in this case so far.
Abhay Tiwari, the kingpin of the JPSC appointment scam, mentioned the involvement of former Chairman L. Khiangte in the scam in his confession statement given to CID officials. He also stated that Khiangte played a key role in selecting TDPL as the agency to conduct the exam.
