Pakur Admin unveils tourism development plan for key attractions

June 25, 2026

Kartik Kumar

Pakur

The Pakur district administration has initiated a comprehensive plan to promote tourism and enhance visitor facilities at some of the district’s most prominent natural and historical attractions. The proposals were discussed during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), chaired by Deputy Commissioner and DTPC Chairperson **Megha Bhardwaj** on Thursday.

The meeting focused on the development, conservation, beautification and infrastructure enhancement of major tourist destinations, including **Durgapur Dam, Kanchangarh Cave and Lilatari Waterfall**. Officials reviewed several proposals aimed at improving the tourism experience while preserving the ecological and cultural significance of these sites.

One of the key decisions taken during the meeting was the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for introducing boating facilities at Durgapur Dam. The Deputy Commissioner said the addition of boating activities would increase the attraction of the site, draw more visitors and create new livelihood opportunities for local residents, particularly youth seeking self-employment.

Bhardwaj also emphasized the need to protect and preserve the district’s natural and historical heritage. She directed officials to constitute local committees for the management, maintenance and development of Kanchangarh Cave and Lilatari Waterfall. According to her, community participation is essential for ensuring sustainable tourism and preserving the unique identity of these destinations.

“Tourism is not only a source of recreation but also an important tool for local development, employment generation and strengthening cultural identity,” the Deputy Commissioner said. She added that the district administration is committed to improving tourism infrastructure and ensuring that development initiatives are implemented in a planned and sustainable manner.

The meeting also discussed other tourism-related initiatives and instructed concerned departments to work in close coordination for their timely execution. Senior district officials, including the Deputy Development Commissioner, Additional Collector, District Transport Officer, municipal officials and departmental engineers, attended the meeting and reviewed future development strategies for the district’s tourism sector.
