Medicant Hospital, Bokaro, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully treating an extremely premature baby girl born at just 27 weeks of gestation with a birth weight of only 950 grams.
Under the care of paediatricians Dr. Amit Kumar and Dr. Vivek Kumar, the hospital’s NICU team provided intensive treatment and continuous monitoring for nearly three months. The infant battled several serious complications, including respiratory distress, neonatal sepsis, jaundice, apnea of prematurity, acute kidney injury, anaemia and feeding difficulties.
Following dedicated medical care, the baby’s weight increased to 2.075 kilograms—more than double her birth weight. She is now healthy, feeding well and showing satisfactory growth.
Dr. Amit Kumar said treating an extremely low birth weight baby born at 27 weeks is always challenging and credited the success to the expertise and teamwork of the entire NICU staff.
The baby’s parents thanked the doctors, nurses and hospital staff for their compassionate care and unwavering support during the difficult period.
The achievement underscores Medicant Hospital’s advanced neonatal care facilities and commitment to providing quality treatment to critically ill newborns.
