Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to order an inquiry into allegations made by former RIMS Director Dr. Rajkumar in a letter addressed to the state Health Minister on June 8.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Roy claimed that Dr. Rajkumar resigned after being questioned for nearly eight hours by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Prior to his resignation, the former director had written to the Health Minister, outlining 22 points alleging that the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department had acted against him with mala fide intent, bypassing the RIMS Governing Council and subjecting him to sustained harassment.
According to Roy, the letter alleges that pressure was exerted on both the RIMS governing body and Dr. Rajkumar in several administrative matters. He further claimed that attempts were made to initiate action against the former director despite judicial orders and that he was subjected to harassment through what were described as false allegations.
Roy said Dr. Rajkumar, a senior neurologist, had successfully handled several complex neurosurgical procedures and had previously served in key administrative positions with distinction. He also noted that several capable RIMS directors have left their posts prematurely, suggesting that excessive government interference has adversely affected the functioning of the state’s premier medical institution.
Referring to the June 8 letter, Roy alleged that Dr. Rajkumar had claimed he was pressured during the 59th meeting of the RIMS Governing Council on April 16, 2025, over the refusal to clear certain “illegal payments.” Roy called for a transparent investigation into the allegations, stating that only an impartial inquiry could establish the facts and help restore confidence in the administration of RIMS.
