A grand Muharram procession, fair and traditional martial arts competition were organised on Sunday at Bazaar Tand in Chanho block headquarters under the banner of the Central Muharram Action Committee. Akharas from several villages participated in the event, showcasing traditional combat skills, discipline and cultural heritage amid an atmosphere of religious harmony and communal unity.

The programme was inaugurated by Jharkhand Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey and Central Muharram Action Committee president and former block chief Julfan Ansari, who jointly cut the ceremonial ribbon. The dignitaries also encouraged participants by symbolically wielding traditional sticks and swords.

Participants displayed impressive skills in lathi, stick, sword and spear demonstrations, captivating thousands of spectators with their agility, discipline and mastery of traditional martial arts. The audience applauded enthusiastically throughout the performances.

Addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore said the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain symbolises the supreme sacrifice made in defence of truth, justice and humanity. He said Imam Hussain’s life continues to inspire people to stand firmly against oppression and injustice, even in the face of adversity.

Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey said Muharram is not only the first month of the Islamic calendar but also a timeless reminder of sacrifice, patience, justice and humanity. She said the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala established enduring ideals of truth and righteousness for all humankind.
