DC disburses Rs 1 Lakh ex-gratia to kin of deceased migrant workers

Dumka

In a significant move towards ensuring social security for migrant laborers, Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha disbursed immediate financial assistance to the dependents of two deceased workers under the Jharkhand Migrant Labor Accident Fund on Monday. The financial aid highlights the district administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable families during times of crisis.

The assistance was provided following the untimely deaths of two migrant workers from the Ramgarh block who lost their lives while working in different parts of the country. Vikas Rai, a resident of Pindari village under the Naukheta panchayat, passed away due to sudden circumstances in Gujarat. In a similar tragic incident, Ramdev Rai from Shankarpur village in the Bhaturiya B panchayat lost his life while employed in Kerala.

Upon the swift completion of all mandatory official procedures and verifications, the administration officially sanctioned the funds. Deputy Commissioner Sinha handed over ex-gratia checks of ₹50,000 each to the mothers of the deceased workers—Asha Devi and Vibhavati Devi, respectively—providing much-needed immediate relief to the grieving families.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the state government remains deeply committed to safeguarding the interests of migrant laborers and their families, especially during unforeseen emergencies. He assured that the district administration is proactively working to ensure that welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries in a transparent and time-bound manner, minimizing procedural delays for families in distress
