Jamshedpur Bandh today over Himanshu Singh murder, rising crime

July 2, 2026

Pioneer News Service

Jamshedpur

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a Jamshedpur bandh on Friday, July 3, to protest the murder of Himanshu Singh in Bistupur and what it described as the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in the city. The party also announced that BJP workers took out torchlight protest processions across all mandals on Thursday evening against increasing crime and alleged administrative failure.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP district office in Sakchi on Thursday, party leaders said the bandh was not politically motivated but aimed at restoring peace, security and a fear-free environment in Jamshedpur. They appealed to citizens, traders, transporters, educational institutions and social organisations to extend their support and turn the shutdown into a mass movement.

Jharkhand BJP State Spokesperson Abhay Singh alleged that the murder of Himanshu Singh in the presence of police had exposed the collapse of law and order in the city. “This was not merely the murder of a young man but the murder of law and order in Jamshedpur,” he said, adding that the incident had shaken public confidence in the administration.

He further claimed that incidents of stabbing, robbery, theft, illegal lottery, drug trafficking, chain-snatching and other criminal activities had increased in recent months, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents. Singh said the bandh had received support from several political parties, social organisations and citizens and represented a collective demand for a crime-free Jamshedpur.

He clarified that hospitals, ambulances, pharmacies, milk shops and other essential and emergency services would remain exempt from the bandh.

Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu alleged that the city had become a safe haven for criminals, with frequent incidents of murder, stabbing, snatching, theft and drug trafficking. She said the growing boldness of criminals and the lack of effective policing had eroded public trust in both the government and the administration.

Sahu said the bandh was intended to awaken public consciousness and send a strong message that citizens would no longer tolerate rising crime. She urged residents to participate in the movement for a safer future.

BJP Jamshedpur Metropolitan President Sanjeev Sinha said the party stood firmly with the bereaved family of Himanshu Singh and would continue its efforts to ensure justice and restore public confidence. He appealed to business associations, industries, labour unions, transport organisations, auto and bus operators, social and cultural groups, educational institutions and the general public to voluntarily support the bandh.
