The Jharkhand Sikh Coordination Committee, Jamshedpur, and the Sikh Samaj Andolan Samiti have appealed to the district administration and the Jharkhand government to take immediate steps to ensure justice for the family of late Himanshu Singh while maintaining peace and law and order in the city.
In a letter addressed to the district administration, Sardar Avtar Singh Bhatia, President of the Sikh Samaj Andolan Samiti and Senior Advisor to the Jharkhand Sikh Coordination Committee, stated that the administration has accepted the demands submitted by the bereaved family following Himanshu Singh’s murder. He stressed that the next priority should be the prompt implementation of those commitments.
Referring to the family’s demand for an encounter of the accused, Bhatia said such a course of action was neither legally possible nor within the powers of the administration. Instead, he urged the authorities to ensure that the accused are prosecuted through a fast-track court so that they receive the strictest punishment under the law.
On the family’s demand for employment, the committee maintained that while the district administration may not be empowered to provide a government job, the state government should extend compassionate employment to one eligible member of the victim’s family.
The committee also strongly supported the family’s demand for financial assistance, urging the Jharkhand government to provide compensation of Rs 1 crore for the welfare of Himanshu Singh’s widow and his elderly parents.
