Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi on Wednesday stressed that public awareness and vigilance are the strongest safeguards against the growing menace of cyber fraud.
Addressing a one-day workshop on Cyber Fraud Awareness organised by the DLSA, Shashi said cybercriminals increasingly exploit people’s trust through fake phone calls, fraudulent OTP requests and impersonation of bank officials to steal money and personal information.
He cautioned people against sharing banking details, responding to fake KYC update requests, scanning suspicious QR codes, falling for fraudulent online shopping websites and investing in schemes promising unrealistic returns. “Individual vigilance is the first line of defence against cybercrime,” he said.
The workshop began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting by Shashi, Family Court Principal Judge Yogeshwar Mani and District Bar Association President Nishikant Prasad.
District Headquarters DSP Sandeep Bhagat advised participants never to share ATM card numbers, CVV codes, passwords or UPI PINs with anyone and urged them to avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading applications from unverified sources.
The programme also highlighted the legal remedies available to victims of cyber fraud. Participants were encouraged to report incidents immediately through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Portal.
The DLSA also informed attendees that it provides free legal aid to eligible sections of society, including women, children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
The workshop concluded with the distribution of cyber safety guidelines and a vote of thanks by DLSA Secretary Vivek Kumar.
