The State government has enhanced the security cover of Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore by adding an extra escort vehicle to his convoy, bringing the total number of escort vehicles to three.
The decision comes following the intervention of Chief Minister Hemant Soren after a controversy erupted over the reported reduction in the minister’s security cover. Acting on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Tadasha Mishra, the IG (Provision) has issued an official order deploying three Bolero escort vehicles with the finance minister’s convoy.
Reacting to the development, Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore thanked Chief Minister Hemant Soren for personally intervening in the matter.
“The issue has been resolved amicably due to the Chief Minister’s timely intervention. He understood the seriousness of the matter and acted promptly,” Kishore said.
Clarifying his earlier objection, the minister said his concerns were based solely on security considerations and not on any personal grievance.
“Palamu has long been affected by extremism and criminal activities. I have consistently fought against such elements throughout my political career. My concerns were raised strictly in accordance with the prescribed security norms,” he said.
The controversy began after the Home Department’s Joint Secretary reportedly issued an order withdrawing one escort vehicle from the minister’s convoy. Expressing dissatisfaction over the decision, Kishore returned his official security personnel and escort vehicle, signalling his protest against the reduction in security.
Despite the withdrawal, security personnel continued to monitor the minister’s movements from a distance as a precautionary measure.
Following the Chief Minister’s intervention and the fresh order issued by the DGP, the minister’s full security arrangement has now been restored, bringing the episode to an end.
