Ranchi Police have arrested two notorious burglars involved in a series of high-value thefts across Ranchi and other districts, including the ₹65 lakh burglary at a jewellery shop in the BIT Mesra area earlier this year.
The arrested accused have been identified as Amit Kumar Singh alias Amit Kumar Chingari and Rajnish Lal. Police recovered a large quantity of stolen gold and silver ornaments along with two smartphones from their possession.
According to police, the breakthrough came during the investigation into the June burglary at PP Jewellers, located under the BIT Mesra OP area, where jewellery worth around ₹65 lakh was stolen.
Acting on a tip-off that members of the gang were hiding in the Sundernagar area of Jamshedpur, a Ranchi Police team, with assistance from the Sundernagar police, conducted a raid and arrested Amit Kumar Singh. Based on his confession, his associate Rajnish Lal was also apprehended.
During interrogation, the accused led investigators to a jewellery shop on Mango Road No. 15 in Purulia Road, Jamshedpur, from where police recovered a substantial quantity of stolen ornaments that had allegedly been sold by the gang.
Police said the duo confessed to carrying out multiple burglaries along with three to four other gang members in Ranchi and East Singhbhum districts. They admitted targeting jewellery shops and residential houses between March-April and June 2026, including thefts under the Ormanjhi police station and BIT Mesra OP limits, before illegally disposing of the stolen valuables.
The recovered items include gold rings, pendants, earrings and several other gold and silver ornaments.
Police said both accused have a criminal history. Amit Kumar Singh alias Chingari has several cases registered against him, including under the Arms Act, while Rajnish Lal was a wanted absconder in a case registered at Kadma police station. Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen property.
