The controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination and other recruitment tests intensified on Saturday as students launched an indefinite satyagraha near Bapu Vatika in Morabadi, demanding a CBI probe into the alleged examination scam.
Raising slogans against the state government, protesters alleged that repeated irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations had jeopardised the future of thousands of aspirants. They claimed that the examination process lacked transparency and accused the authorities of favouritism and corruption.
The students demanded an impartial CBI investigation into all alleged irregularities, strict action against those responsible, and the cancellation and re-conduct of tainted examinations. They also called for comprehensive reforms to ensure transparency and fairness in future recruitment processes.
Former student leader-turned-politician Devendra Mahato criticised the state government, alleging that the JPSC had remained mired in controversies for years. He claimed that candidates with lower marks had secured selection while higher-scoring aspirants were left protesting on the streets. Mahato further alleged that the ongoing CID inquiry was an attempt to suppress the issue and reiterated the demand for a CBI investigation, saying the government should order a probe or the Chief Minister should resign.
Hundreds of students participated in the peaceful protest, while heavy police deployment was made around the demonstration site to maintain law and order. The protesters warned that the agitation would intensify with rallies and other demonstrations if their demands remained unaddressed.
