The Meteorological Department has stated that skies will remain overcast across most parts of Jharkhand throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in several districts.
The department indicated that the impact of the rain is likely to be more pronounced in the districts of southern and central Jharkhand. Intermittent rainfall is expected to provide relief from the humid heat, and a slight drop in temperature may also be recorded.
The Meteorological Department’s forecasted that light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in several districts on both days. Additionally, strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h may occur. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted for the districts of West Singhbhum, Simdega, Gumla, Khunti, and Lohardaga.
The Department further said that the weather in Jharkhand will not clear up completely on July 30 either; skies will remain cloudy, and light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in several places. However, the intensity of the rainfall is expected to be somewhat lower compared to previous days, it added.
The Meteorological Department said that there will not be significant changes in maximum temperatures throughout the week, though a drop of 2 degrees 3 degrees Celsius is possible thereafter. Residents are advised to heed the warnings issued by the Meteorological Department.
The Meteorological Centre, a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coast has intensified into a depression. The monsoon remains active in Jharkhand due to the influence of this system. Consequently, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms have been recorded in several parts of the state, and this weather pattern is likely to continue for the next few days.
In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall in the State—23.0 mm—was recorded in Simdega. Meanwhile, a maximum temperature of 33.4°C was recorded in Daltonganj, while the minimum temperature in Latehar stood at 21.2°C. According to the Meteorological Department, while some areas saw a rise in maximum temperatures ranging from 2.1°C to 4.0°C, temperatures in most regions remain close to normal.
Despite the monsoon being active in the state, rainfall recorded so far has been below normal. Over the past 56 days, Jharkhand has received 29 percent less rainfall on average, leading to drought-like conditions in several districts.
