NHES commissions 150 KWP Solar Power Plant

Narbheram Hansraj English School (NHES), Bistupur, has taken a major step towards environmental sustainability by commissioning a 150 KWP Solar Power Plant on its campus, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and eco-friendly education. The project, executed by M/s Universal Energy, a division of Universal Enertech Pvt. Ltd., forms a key part of the school’s Green Building Initiative and is among the largest solar installations in Jamshedpur.
The newly commissioned plant was formally dedicated to the people of Jamshedpur on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day by NHES President Nakul Kamani in the presence of members of the school’s managing committee. Also present were Daman Das, Director of M/s Universal Energy, and Nalin Goel, who played a key role in executing the Green Building Initiative.
Equipped with advanced TOPCON technology and high-efficiency Waaree solar panels, the 150 KWP plant is expected to make a significant contribution to environmental conservation. According to the school, the installation will help offset approximately 3,375 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, an environmental impact comparable to preserving around 3,835 trees.
Addressing the gathering, Nakul Kamani said that education extends beyond academic excellence and includes fostering values of environmental responsibility. He noted that by embracing renewable energy, the school is reducing its carbon footprint while setting a practical example for students, parents, and the wider community. He added that the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to sustainable living and responsible citizenship.
The event also featured a plantation drive to mark World Nature Conservation Day. Class VI students planted medicinal plants to promote awareness of their ecological and therapeutic importance, while Class XII students planted a variety of trees and saplings across the campus, contributing to a greener environment.
The solar power plant operates under the Net Metering Scheme of Tata Steel UISL. Under the arrangement, surplus electricity generated by the plant will be exported to the power grid, with the equivalent energy adjusted against the school’s electricity consumption. The system is expected to maximise the utilisation of renewable energy while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
