The Meteorological Department has forecast that conditions for heavy to moderate rainfall will persist in the state until August 2. During this period, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, and Sahibganj. People have been advised to remain alert during the inclement weather.
The Meteorological Department stated that no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next 24 hours. However, maximum temperatures may rise by 2°C to 4°C over the subsequent four days.
Rainfall continues across various districts of Jharkhand. Although the weather cleared up in several areas on Thursday afternoon—causing residents to face humid, sultry conditions—skies are expected to remain overcast across most parts of the state. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in many locations. Additionally, there are forecasts of lightning strikes and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.
Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded in almost all districts of the state. The highest rainfall, 72.0 mm, was recorded in Bandgaon, West Singhbhum. Meanwhile, the highest maximum temperature of 32.7°C was recorded in Daltonganj, and the lowest minimum temperature of 20.6°C was recorded in Latehar.
Data from June 1 to July 29 shows that Jharkhand has received 362.8 mm of rainfall against a normal of 489.2 mm. This indicates a rainfall deficit of 25 percent below normal. In several districts, the rainfall deficit remains above 50 percent.
Monsoon conditions have been relatively better in some districts. West Singhbhum recorded 19 percent more rainfall than normal. Meanwhile, Simdega and Seraikela-Kharsawan recorded deficits of only 1 percent and 3 percent, respectively—figures considered close to normal. The capital, Ranchi, has so far received 15 percent less rainfall than normal.
Rainfall deficit likely to decrease in the coming days
The Meteorological Department has stated that the monsoon is likely to become active again in the coming days. If good rainfall occurs as forecast, the rainfall deficit recorded in the state so far could see a partial improvement.
