The Unseen Climb!
By Sheetal Bagaria
When I first heard that Anand and Anurag had opened Gelato Maestro, I smiled. Not because they had entered the food business, but because it reminded me that some stories take decades to reveal themselves.
At first glance, this is the story of an artisanal gelato café. But the more I thought about it, the more I realised it isn’t about gelato at all. It is about friendship. It is about two people who had already built successful careers in completely different worlds, yet chose to come together to build something that had nothing to do with necessity and everything to do with passion.
Some friendships melt. Some freeze in time. And then there are those rare friendships that, like a well made gelato, only become richer with time.
For over four decades, Anand and Anurag have shared one such friendship. They have seen changing times, changing businesses and changing priorities, yet the friendship remained constant. What changed was that, one day, they decided to give one of life’s quieter dreams a home.
That is what makes Gelato Maestro so fascinating to me.
It is not the story of two food entrepreneurs. It is the story of two accomplished businessmen who willingly became students again. They stepped into an unfamiliar world with curiosity rather than confidence, and with the humility to keep learning. Watching them speak about ingredients, bread, flavours and quality, I realised they were not simply opening another business. They were enjoying the privilege of discovering a completely new craft together.
Perhaps that is the greatest luxury success can offer. Not the freedom to stop working, but the freedom to pursue something that simply brings you joy.
People will walk into Gelato Maestro for the gelato, the food and the warmth of the place. They will see the well deserved five star reviews.
What they may never see is the invisible journey behind those reviews. Two friends choosing curiosity over comfort. Choosing to step away from what they already knew and into a world they wanted to understand. Choosing to build something because it excited them, not because it was expected of them.
That, to me, is the unseen climb.
The reviews celebrate what has been created.
The unseen climb is the decision to begin again.
What moves me most is seeing the joy with which they now welcome family and friends into Gelato Maestro. There is a different kind of pride in sharing something that has been built from passion rather than pressure. At some point in life, success is no longer measured only by scale. It is measured by the freedom to follow your heart.
Only later did I realise how perfect the name is.
Gelato Maestro is not just about mastering gelato.
It is about mastering the art of remaining curious, trusting a lifelong friendship and discovering that it is never too late to begin again.
Perhaps that is why this story was never really about ice cream.
It is about friendship that endured, passion that waited patiently for its moment, and the quiet courage to turn that passion into something others can now experience, one scoop at a time.
