Marking World Environment Day, a newly developed Biodiversity Park by the Forest Department was inaugurated at Baksidipa forest under Badla Panchayat in Senha block of Lohardaga district on Thursday. The initiative is being seen as an important step towards promoting environmental conservation, biodiversity awareness and eco-friendly recreation in the region.
The park was inaugurated by Member of Parliament Sukhdeo Bhagat in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Meena and Divisional Forest Officer Abhishek Kumar. The dignitaries formally opened the facility by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. They also paid floral tributes to freedom fighter Veer Budhu Bhagat and unveiled a memorial dedicated to his legacy.
Addressing the gathering, Bhagat highlighted the growing challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation, stressing that environmental protection is a shared responsibility. Referring to traditional festivals such as Karma and Sarhul, he said Indian cultural traditions have long nurtured a close bond between society and nature. He emphasized the need to continue the legacy of tree plantation for future generations and called for linking plantation drives with housing and development schemes.
Deputy Commissioner Meena underscored the importance of public participation in plantation and conservation activities, while DFO Kumar appealed to citizens to reduce fuel consumption and make greater use of public transport.
Following the inauguration, visitors explored the park’s lush greenery, water fountains and scenic surroundings. The event was attended by public representatives, district officials and local residents.
