As many as six people, including a mother- daughter duo, were reported to have lost their lives in separate incidents due to lightning and heavy showers in Jharkhand on Sunday. A warning for heavy rain has been sounded off for different parts of the State for the coming days while thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are also expected to occur at many places.
As per reports Rekha Devi (48) and her daughter Roshni Kumari (22) were struck by lightning while working in the fields in the Sankul village of Patratu block and were later declared dead by doctors on examination. In another incident of Palani village under Latad Panchayat, 30- year old Sulekha Devi alias Sushanti also lost her life due to lightning, Meanwhile, a young girl in Vishnugarh and another woman named Pramila Devi (32) of Ramgarh district also succumbed to death due to lightning strike.
According to the bulletin released by The Meteorological Centre, Ranchi on Monday, a prediction for heavy rainfall at various places from August 4 to August 7 has been made.
The communiqué stated that on August 4 isolated heavy showers are likely to occur in the northwestern and central parts of the State including Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh and Bokaro whereas there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at some places in the northeastern, northwestern and southeastern (West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Saraikela- Kharsawan) parts of the State on August 5.
On August 6, isolated heavy rainfall has being predicted for the northwestern and central parts of the State- Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Lohardaga, Gumla and Khunti. For August 7, isolated places in parts of the northwestern, southern (Simdega and West Singhbhum) and adjoining central (Lohardaga, Gumla, Ranchi and Khunti) are likely to witness heavy showers.
The official statement also specified that thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with a speed of approximately 40 to 50 km per hour are also likely to take place at isolated places in the State on all the days.
The MET Centre, Ranchi also informed that over the next few days, the skies will remain cloudy and light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places the State. However, maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2 to 3 degree Celsius across the State during the next two days thereafter no significant change in temperature is expected over the next three days.
As per the data released on Monday evening, in the last 24 hours, maximum rainfall was recorded in Koderma at 31.5 mm, Baharagora in East Singhbhum received 27.5 mm followed by Deoghar at 26.5 mm and the State capital received 6.2 mm.
