Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leaders, public representatives and residents on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Padma Bhushan awardee Dishom Guru Shibu Soren on his first death anniversary, remembering his lifelong struggle for the rights of tribal communities and the creation of a prosperous Jharkhand.
A grand homage ceremony was held at Soren’s Khijuria residence in Dumka, where floral tributes were offered by political leaders, party workers and supporters. Among those present were JMM MLA Basant Soren and Dumka MLA Dr. Louis Marandi.
Speaking on the occasion, Basant Soren said his father had envisioned an educated and self-reliant Jharkhand where every farmer had access to irrigation and opportunities for development. He said the present state government remains committed to fulfilling Guruji’s vision through welfare-oriented policies and inclusive development.
Dr. Louis Marandi said Shibu Soren’s contribution to Jharkhand’s socio-political movement was unparalleled and that the void created by his demise would continue to be deeply felt.
To mark the occasion, the Dumka district administration, in collaboration with the Department of School Education and Literacy, organised a district-level felicitation programme at Suchna Bhawan to honour students who excelled in essay writing, painting and quiz competitions held on August 3 on the life and legacy of Dishom Guru.
Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Sinha and Basant Soren presented mementoes and dictionaries to the winners.
Rishabh Kumar secured first place in the painting competition, while Aarya Bharti topped the quiz contest and Laxmi Priya Kumari emerged winner in the essay writing competition. Several other students received consolation prizes in recognition of their participation. District Education Officer Sanjeet Kumar, senior education officials and teachers were also present at the event.
