Karim City College marks World Tribal Day with focus on tribal heritage

A special programme to mark World Tribal Day was organized at Karim City College on Saturday under the joint aegis of the Departments of Journalism and Mass Communication and Political Science.
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the rich cultural heritage, traditions, languages, rights and social contributions of tribal communities, while encouraging dialogue on their inclusive and dignified development.
Welcoming the guests and faculty members, College Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz said the tribal community forms an integral part of India’s social and cultural diversity. He stressed the importance of understanding and respecting tribal traditions and contributions to the country’s cultural heritage.
The keynote speaker, Mansingh Manjhi, Sahitya Akademi Award winner and noted Santali writer, lyricist and producer, spoke extensively about tribal languages, culture, folk traditions, art and literature. He highlighted the community’s rich heritage and its harmonious relationship with nature.
Ravi Raj Murmu, an alumnus of Karim City College and winner of the Best Debut Director award at the 72nd National Film Awards for the Santali film “Angen”, spoke about the representation of tribal culture and society through cinema. He shared his experiences and highlighted the role of films in preserving and showcasing tribal identity and traditions.
Both guests were felicitated with mementos in recognition of their contributions towards the preservation and promotion of tribal heritage.
Dr. Neha Tiwari, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, and Dr. Anwar Sahab, Head of the Department of Political Science, urged students to develop a deeper understanding of tribal history, constitutional rights and contemporary challenges. They emphasized the need for a sensitive and informed approach towards tribal communities.
The programme conveyed messages of respect, equality, social justice and preservation of cultural diversity. A large number of students from the two departments participated in the event.
Assistant Professors Dr. Rashmi Kumari from Mass Communication and Dr. Tanveer Kazmi from Political Science, along with Mohammad Khan, were present. Visiting faculty member Bapi Murmu conducted the proceedings. Syed Sajid Parvez, Syed Shahzeb Parvez and Shazia Parveen also attended the programme.
