The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) celebrated World Tribal Day with traditional fervour at its district office in Dhanushpuja, Pakur, on Saturday, with a large number of tribal men and women participating in traditional attire.
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage, folk art and traditions of tribal communities through traditional dance performances accompanied by the beats of mandar and nagada. Party workers and cultural performers danced to the traditional music, creating a festive atmosphere.
The programme was inaugurated jointly by JMM district president Azizul Islam, district vice-president Haji Samad Ali and MP representative and central committee member Shyam Yadav.
Addressing the gathering, Azizul Islam said World Tribal Day symbolises the protection of tribal culture, language and identity. He said the JMM has been observing August 9 as an important occasion to highlight issues concerning tribal communities.
The programme was attended by several JMM office-bearers, including Peter Marandi, Michael Murmu, Sunil Tudu and Josephina Hembram, besides hundreds of party workers and members of the tribal community.
The celebration combined cultural performances with messages on education, social awareness and preservation of tribal heritage.
