World Tribal Day 2026 was observed in Lohardaga with a strong emphasis on environmental protection, preservation of tribal culture and the traditional relationship between indigenous communities and nature. A plantation programme was organised on Saturday at CM School of Excellence, Nadiya, where Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Meena, Superintendent of Police Sadiq Anwar Rizvi and other senior officials planted saplings and reiterated the collective responsibility towards protecting the environment.
During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the deep and age-old relationship between tribal communities and nature. He noted that the traditions and cultural practices of tribal society have always accorded special importance to the conservation of water, forests and land. He emphasised that plantation should not remain merely a ceremonial activity but should contribute to creating a greener, cleaner and safer future for coming generations.
He also urged people to plant more saplings and ensure their regular care and protection. SP Sadique Anwar Rizvi also participated in the plantation drive and stressed that environmental protection was a shared responsibility of society and could not be left to the government and administration alone. He observed that such initiatives in schools could help develop sensitivity towards nature and strengthen environmental awareness among children. Deputy Development Commissioner Raj Maheshwaram, ITDA Project Director Sushma Neelam Soreng, Deputy Election Officer Sanjay Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amit Kumar, District Education Officer Das Sunanda Chandramouleshwar and other senior officials also planted saplings on the school premises.
