Renowned ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon from Jharkhand, Dr Bharti Kashyap, has been conferred the ISKRS Excellence Award for her contribution to refractive surgery through research and clinical experience, particularly in laser vision correction and the treatment of keratoconus.
The award was presented to Dr Kashyap by Dr Radhika Tandon, Professor at the Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi, during a conference of kerato-refractive surgeons held in New Delhi from August 7 to 9.
At the prestigious scientific conference, Dr Kashyap presented her research and clinical experience on “Lasers in Keratoconus” before leading refractive surgeon Dr Rohit Shetty and ophthalmologists from across the country. A detailed discussion on the subject, led by Dr Shetty, further highlighted the significance of her work and clinical experience in the field.
Dr Kashyap has been working in the field of laser vision correction and refractive surgery for the past two decades in Jharkhand. During this period, she has helped thousands of young people achieve freedom from spectacles and meet the prescribed visual standards required for careers in the police, aviation, railways as loco pilots, merchant navy and other competitive services.
Apart from meeting occupational vision requirements, spectacle-free vision has also helped improve the confidence and quality of life of many young men and women, she said.
Dr Kashyap said her institute has been using one of the world’s advanced AI-enabled laser vision correction technologies for the past two years. The technology has been used not only for conventional laser vision correction but also for managing complex corneal conditions such as keratoconus, with encouraging clinical outcomes.
She presented her clinical experience and research based on the use of the technology at the New Delhi conference, where it received appreciation from leading specialists in the field.
Dr Kashyap said the recognition her work has received at reputed scientific conferences in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai reflects the growing capabilities of ophthalmic care in Jharkhand.
“Recognition at leading scientific platforms demonstrates that patients in Jharkhand can also receive world-class eye care and advanced treatment using the latest technologies,” she said.
