The Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) celebrated the Third National Space Day around the central theme “Space for a Sustainable Tomorrow.” Organized by the Department of Geoinformatics in partnership with ISRO’s Regional Remote Sensing Centre–East (RRSC-E) and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Kolkata, the event brought together university leadership, ISRO scientists, research scholars, and local school students.
The programme took place at the Main Auditorium of the Management Building, CUJ, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. R. K. De and Registrar Shri K. Kosala Rao. Prof. A. C. Pandey served as the Programme Convener, with Dr. Chandra Shekhar Dwivedi acting as the Coordinator.
Dr. Prabir Kumar Das (RRSC-E) inaugurated the technical segment by highlighting how satellite data drives progress in agriculture, disaster management, weather forecasting, and resource conservation. Expert presentations included: “ISRO’s Moon Odyssey”: Dr. Arindam Guha (RRSC-E, ISRO) detailed India’s lunar missions and achievements in planetary science. Venkata Sudhakar Kotti (NRSC) explained the practical mechanics of Earth-observation satellites and environmental monitoring.
Dr. Tanumi Kumar (RRSC-E) outlined academic pathways and career prospects within the space sector, encouraging research-driven innovation.
The event featured an interactive space exhibition showcasing satellite models and remote sensing technologies. A competitive space quiz was hosted for school students by Quiz Master Shri Niladri Das and Ms. Nivedita Sinha. Participating institutions included: Neerja Sahay DAV Public School, Ideal International School, Bridgeford School, Tupudana, Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir.
The celebration wrapped up with the distribution of prizes and certificates to quiz winners and participants. Dr. Chandra Shekhar Dwivedi delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the leadership, ISRO delegates, and participating schools. The event successfully demonstrated that modern space technology serves not only off-world exploration but also vital, real-world sustainability on Earth.
