Governor Santosh Gangwar emphasised the need for greater and more meaningful participation of women in nation-building, saying their contribution must extend beyond numerical representation to decision-making and leadership roles.
He was speaking as the chief speaker at a special discussion on the book “Shatayu Sangh and Women’s Participation”, organised by Vishwa Samvad Kendra, Ranchi, as part of the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Gangwar said women are contributing significantly across sectors including science, education, administration, industry, sports, social service and public life. Referring to the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, he said the country could achieve its development objectives only with the active participation of women.
He also stressed the importance of implementing constitutional provisions related to women’s reservation. The growing participation of women in panchayats and local bodies, he said, had demonstrated their ability to handle administrative responsibilities efficiently and sensitively.
Author Dr Shobha Vijendra said her book sought to examine perceptions about the RSS and women through research and the experiences of women associated with the broader Sangh thought. She said she interacted with nearly 100 women across the country while researching the book, with the experiences of 34 women included in the publication.
Vijendra said Indian tradition views women and men as complementary rather than competing, and highlighted the role of women in strengthening families and society. She also underlined the importance of family values in shaping children during their formative years.
RSS Jharkhand Prant Pracharak Gopal Sharma said women had played an important role throughout the organisation’s 100-year journey. He said the Rashtra Sevika Samiti had provided a separate organisational platform for women and stressed their contributions to education, social service, awareness and leadership.
Rashtra Sevika Samiti functionary Sunita Indulkar said comprehensive social development was impossible without women’s participation.
Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi described the book as an important work for understanding India’s civilisational perspective on women, society and nation-building.
Senior RSS functionaries, academicians, social workers, eminent women and distinguished citizens attended the programme.
