The Food Safety Department has intensified inspections of food establishments in Deoghar during the State Shravan Mela 2026 to ensure hygiene and food safety. Teams inspected hotels, restaurants, sweet shops, cafes and other outlets in Circular Road, Williamstown and Satsang Chowk.
Officials checked food quality, storage conditions, cleanliness and valid food safety licences and registrations, besides verifying manufacturing and expiry dates. Food samples, including spices, lentils, paneer, sauces, chutney, sambhar, cooked food, vegetables and sweets such as jalebi, boondi and various laddoos, were examined.
Water quality reports and pest-management records of the establishments were also reviewed. Food business operators were instructed to maintain proper hygiene, ensure safe storage and keep valid licences or registrations. They were warned against selling or using expired or substandard food products.
The department said violations would invite action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Inspections and surveillance will continue throughout the Mela period to safeguard devotees and visitors.
Officials also urged consumers to check manufacturing and expiry dates, the FSSAI logo and licence or registration details while purchasing food products.
