Triggered by the presence of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, Jharkhand is likely to witness a spell of heavy showers at isolated places along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at various places over the next few days.
As per the bulletin released by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi on August 26, a yellow alert has been issued for various parts of the State from August 27 to August 30 stating a warning for heavy rain accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour.
On august 27, parts of northwestern Jharkhand including Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and Latehar and the adjoining central parts- Hazaribagh and Koderma are likely to witness heavy rain. The forecast shows that on August 28 heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the districts of Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma and Giridih.
For August 29 and August 30, the northeastern regions including Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara and Giridih as well as parts of the adjoining district of Dhanbad and the southeastern districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Saraikela- Kharsawan are expected to receive heavy showers.
With the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds expected over the next few days, residents across the State are advised to remain cautions and avoid standing under trees, near electric poles or in open fields.
From June 1 to August 26, Jharkhand has received a total of 679.8 mm of rain while the normal average for this time period is 759.1 mm. The data shared by the MET Centre showed that the rainfall deficit has come down to -10 percent and is now in the normal category (+19% to -19%).
The State capital has witnessed a total of 807.5 mm of rain this season while the normal average for the district is 776.3 mm.
While on one hand West Singhbhum has recorded a total of 1099 mm of rain as against the required amount of 764.4 mm and has a surplus of 44 percent, on the other hand Chatra has a deficit of -44 percent with only 394.4 mm of realised rainfall as against the normal average of 704.9mm.
