Eight-month-old baby killed in assault over trivial dispute in Palamu

An eight-month-old baby was killed and his parents seriously injured after a minor dispute between two villagers turned violent in Palamu, police said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday evening at Bindu Bigha village under the Haider Nagar Police Station limits. According to SDPO Divyansh Shukla, 25-year-old Chitranjan Paswan allegedly attacked Deepak Paswan (30) and his wife Rupa (28) with a sharp-edged weapon locally known as a garassa following a heated argument.
The couple’s eight-month-old son, Prince, who was in his mother’s lap during the assault, suffered a fatal head injury and died on the spot. Deepak sustained serious injuries to his neck and abdomen, while Rupa suffered injuries to her hand.
Doctors at the sub-divisional hospital in Hussainabad declared the infant brought dead. Medical officer S. K. Ravi said the injured couple, who sustained multiple bleeding injuries, were referred to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police arrested the accused and recovered the weapon used in the attack. Preliminary investigation revealed the accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and the violence stemmed from an exchange of abuses over a trivial issue. Police are investigating the case.
