The investigation into alleged irregularities in the results of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination intensified on Wednesday, with former commission member Jamal Ahmed appearing before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ranchi.
Ahmed reached the CID headquarters, where a special team questioned him in connection with the case. According to sources, the questioning is based on statements and evidence allegedly provided by accused Abhay Tiwari, who was arrested earlier in the investigation. The CID is understood to be verifying Tiwari’s statements by confronting them with Ahmed.
The probe has gained momentum in recent days. Twenty people have so far been arrested in connection with the alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC examination. On August 10, CID arrested former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte, two days before Ahmed appeared for questioning.
Meanwhile, the CID on Wednesday conducted searches in Palamu as part of its investigation into alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations. Acting on court-issued warrants, a CID team accompanied by Palamu police visited the residences of two government teachers, Santosh Kumar Singh of Naudiha Bazar and Ravishankar Kumar of Hanumannagar in Medininagar, in connection with the case.
The two teachers, however, were not found at their residences and are currently absconding, officials said.
The searches followed an earlier joint operation by the CID and Palamu police on August 3 at locations linked to the two teachers in Medininagar and Naudiha Bazar. Investigators had seized documents and electronic devices during those searches, which reportedly contained leads relevant to the examination irregularities.
The CID is continuing to examine the role of individuals associated with the examination process as the investigation widens.
