Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Wednesday inaugurated the 2nd NTPC National Ranking Archery Tournament at Mohan Kumar Mangalam Stadium in Sector-4, Bokaro. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, he described Jharkhand as the ‘Land of Archery’ and said the state has immense sporting talent capable of achieving recognition at national and international levels.
Gangwar said archery develops concentration, patience, discipline, balance and commitment towards a goal. Referring to India’s rich tradition of archery, he cited Lord Ram, Arjuna and Eklavya as symbols of dedication and focus, adding that modern training and technology have taken the sport to new heights.
He stressed the need to identify talent, particularly in rural and tribal areas, and provide young players with qualified coaches, modern facilities, equipment and adequate competition opportunities. He said initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India have created greater opportunities for sporting talent from villages and smaller towns.
Calling upon the archers to aim high and remain disciplined, the Governor said continuous improvement in performance is more important than merely winning. He welcomed players, coaches and technical officials from across the country and wished them success.
On his arrival at the stadium, the Governor was accorded a guard of honour. Inspector General of Police, North Chotanagpur Range, Shailendra Kumar Sinha, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha, Superintendent of Police Nathu Singh Meena and Deputy Development Commissioner Shatabdi Majumdar welcomed him with bouquets.
