Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually inaugurated two railway stations—Piska and Muri under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Stations scheme. State Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, the state’s Land and Revenue Minister Deepak Birua, and the BJP’s Hatia MLA Naveen Jaiswal were among the dignitaries who attended the function at Piska railway station in Ranchi.
Speaking on the occasion, Gangwar said, “I am delighted that India’s first hydrogen train also commenced operations in Haryana today, which truly reflects the progress our country is making.” According to an official statement, the redevelopment of Piska railway station was undertaken at a cost of around Rs 21 crore, while the redevelopment of the Muri station incurred an expenditure of Rs 12 crore.
The stations, which had only basic amenities previously, have now been equipped with modern passenger amenities such as upgraded station buildings, lifts and foot-over-bridges, ensuring a safer and superior travel experience, it added.
Additionally, modern train information display systems, better platform connectivity and facilities such as ramps, tactile paths, and separate toilets for persons with disability have also been built.
The redevelopment of railway stations extends far beyond mere cosmetic upgrades to station buildings. The primary focus has been on providing passengers with a safe, clean, and highly convenient travel experience. Both stations now feature visually striking building facades.
The entrance gates and porches have been given a modern, refreshed look, while the station premises have been illuminated using vibrant retro-reflective lighting. To enhance passenger comfort, the platforms have undergone significant upgrades. These improvements include the installation of new platform shelters, superior flooring, clean drinking water facilities, modern toilets, ample seating, proper lighting, and fans.
Additionally, the station approach roads, circulating areas, and parking zones have been extensively developed. The passenger information system has been upgraded to state-of-the-art standards, complemented by illuminated signage, IP-based CCTV cameras for enhanced security, and comfortable furniture. Artistic elements reflecting local art, culture, and heritage have also been integrated into the station design.
In alignment with the Prime Minister’s ‘Sugamya Bharat’ (Accessible India) campaign, special amenities have been developed for Divyangjan (specially-abled) and senior citizens. These include lifts, ramps, handrails, tactile paths for the visually impaired, low-height drinking water booths and ticket counters, divyang-friendly toilets, reserved parking, and wheelchair assistance. These facilities will ensure that the stations are highly accessible and convenient for all sections of society.
Tailored facilities have been developed to meet the specific requirements of both stations. Piska railway station now features a modern and comfortable waiting hall to better serve local commuters. Meanwhile, Muri railway station has been equipped with separate first- and second-class waiting rooms alongside a modern Executive Lounge, offering superior comfort for long-distance travelers.
