The Tribal Welfare Boys’ Hostel will undergo a comprehensive infrastructure and management overhaul following complaints from resident students about water shortages, seepage, electrical hazards and poor sanitation.
During an inspection of the hostel, officials found water seepage at several places in the building, prompting directions for immediate structural repairs by the Building Construction Division. The electrical system will also be overhauled, with damaged fixtures, faulty switchboards and unsafe wiring to be repaired or replaced to prevent accidents.
To improve supervision, the operational charge of the hostel will be handed over to the Principal of the nearby Plus Two Zila School. The arrangement is aimed at ensuring regular monitoring of the facility and addressing students’ day-to-day concerns.
Students also highlighted inadequate water supply and unhygienic washrooms. The Municipal Council has been directed to clean overhead water reservoirs, remove wild vegetation and ensure regular sanitation of the hostel premises. Two additional water storage tanks will also be installed to address the water shortage.
The District Welfare Department has been asked to engage local Self-Help Groups across departmental hostels within a week. The groups will oversee kitchen operations, arrange cooks and form local committees to address routine problems faced by hostel residents.
Officials have also been directed to provide indoor recreational facilities, including carrom boards and ludo sets, within 48 hours.
The measures are aimed at improving basic amenities, strengthening hostel management and creating a safer and more conducive environment for tribal students.
