Vanvasi Kalyan Kendra workshop ends with renewed resolve for service

A two-day state-level training workshop for urban committee workers of Vanvasi Kalyan Kendra, Jharkhand, concluded at the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce building in Bistupur with a renewed commitment towards service, organisational strengthening and social responsibility.
The workshop focused on the organisation’s working methods, expansion of service activities and the role of its workers in society. The sessions sought to strengthen the participants’ understanding of organisational responsibilities and prepare them for future outreach and service initiatives.
Addressing the first session on the second day, North-Central Zone Regional Organising Secretary Prafulla Akant spoke on “New Directions for Organisational Service Activities, the Current Tribal Society and Our Role.” He stressed the importance of responsibility, regular meetings and proper division of work among workers.
He said India’s history was rich in valour and sacrifice and highlighted the contribution of tribal heroes to the country’s freedom struggle. He urged workers to move beyond viewing tribal society merely from the perspective of rights and instead foster respect, kinship and a deeper social connection.
Akant emphasised that service initiatives should contribute towards self-respect, self-confidence and self-reliance. He highlighted the need to promote quality education, libraries, school laboratories, including mobile laboratories, free coaching facilities for competitive and civil services examinations, healthcare services, skill development and greater employment opportunities for women.
He also spoke about linking local resources such as ragi, medicinal herbs and forest vegetables with health and livelihood opportunities. The preservation of the legacy of tribal icons such as Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the protection of folk and cultural traditions were also emphasised.
In the second session, Regional Urban Work In-charge Hirenra Sinha and All-India Joint Organising Secretary Bhagwan Sahay guided participants on strengthening organisational activities in urban areas, defining the role of workers and preparing future action plans.
The concluding session was conducted by Jamshedpur Division Organising Secretary Pramod Nath. The programme began with a group song led by Deenbandhu Singh. All-India Joint Organising Secretary Bhagwan Sahay, State President Sudan Munda and Provincial Urban Affairs Head Pradeep Mahto were among the dignitaries present on the dais.
Pradeep Mahto shared his views on the future direction of urban outreach activities, while Vinita Indwar, Women’s Wing Head for the Gumla Division, presented a solo song. Bhagwan Sahay called upon the workers to further expand service activities and contribute more effectively towards society. State President Sudan Munda delivered the vote of thanks and offered concluding guidance.
The workshop concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to extending service activities to the last person in society and strengthening the spirit of unity reflected in the message, “Villagers or city-dwellers, we are all Indians.”
The two-day programme ended on a spirited note with the collective singing of Vande Mataram, led by Sulekha Mahto, a teacher at Nischintapur Shishu Mandir.
