In a significant development, Rajiv Ranjan, the Advocate General of Jharkhand, tendered his resignation to Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday morning, citing personal reasons.

Mr. Ranjan was appointed as the 12th Advocate General of Jharkhand on February 7, 2020, and served in the position for over six years. A senior advocate of the Jharkhand High Court, he represented the state government in several key constitutional and legal matters during his tenure.
He was widely regarded as a crucial legal pillar of the state government, playing a pivotal role in shaping legal strategies and defending the government’s position in complex and sensitive cases before the courts.
Prior to his tenure as Advocate General, Mr. Ranjan had also served as Additional Advocate General during the government led by Arjun Munda.
