The capital city is set to host another international sporting event as the second South Asian Throwball Championship will be held on June 17 and 18, 2026, at the Harivansh Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium in Khelgaon.
The prestigious tournament, organised under the aegis of the Throwball Federation of India, will see participation from national teams of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 17, while the closing and prize distribution ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on June 18.
Ranchi has been selected as the host city following the successful organizes of the National Throwball Championship here last year. The efficient management and smooth execution of that event played a key role in bringing this South Asian-level competition to the city.
Adding to the pride of Jharkhand, two players from the state—Amardeep in the men’s category and Aruna Yadav in the women’s category—have been selected to represent India. Notably, Aruna Yadav will lead the Indian women’s team as captain, a development expected to inspire young athletes across the state and boost the popularity of throwball in the region.
The organization committee is making comprehensive arrangements for players and officials, including accommodation, food, transportation, security and medical facilities. Special efforts are also being made to introduce visiting international players to Jharkhand’s culture, traditions and local cuisine, reflecting the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava.”
Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Chairman of the Jharkhand State Throwball Association, said that Ranchi’s continued success in hosting major sporting events highlights the state’s rapid progress in the field of sports. He expressed confidence that the championship would serve as a platform for sporting excellence, discipline and international cooperation.
