Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday launched a statewide awareness campaign aimed at making Jharkhand a drug-free state by educating people about the dangers of narcotics consumption, trafficking and their adverse effects on society.
The campaign was formally inaugurated at the Jharkhand Secretariat, where the Chief Minister flagged off awareness vehicles that will travel across various districts to spread messages against substance abuse. Through these mobile outreach units, the government seeks to raise public awareness about the harmful consequences of drug addiction and encourage young people to stay away from narcotic substances.
Addressing officials and attendees, Soren said the consumption of narcotic and prohibited substances has a severe impact on human health and poses a serious threat to families and society. He stressed the need for collective efforts to achieve the goal of a drug-free Jharkhand.
“Addiction destroys an individual’s physical, mental, economic and social well-being. It not only affects the person involved but also pushes families and society into deep crisis. Society must actively participate in the fight against substance abuse,” the Chief Minister said.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to tackling the menace, Soren said protecting youth from drug addiction remains one of the state’s top priorities. He noted that substance abuse poses a significant challenge to the progress of families, communities and the state as a whole.
The Chief Minister said the government has been continuously conducting enforcement drives to curb the illegal trade of narcotic substances. Alongside these efforts, a comprehensive public awareness programme has been launched to educate people—particularly the youth—about the dangers of addiction and motivate them to adopt healthy and positive lifestyles.
Appealing to citizens to support the initiative, Soren urged people to stay away from drugs and spread awareness among family members, friends and communities about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Irfan Ansari, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Vandana Dadel, Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
