Ranchi set for high-security NEET-UG Re-Exam today

June 20, 2026

Over 10,000 candidates to appear amid CCTV monitoring, Biometric checks

PNS

Ranchi

Ranchi administration has completed extensive preparations for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, scheduled to be held on June 21. More than 10,000 candidates are expected to appear for the high-stakes medical entrance test, which will be conducted at 21 examination centres across the city from 2 pm to 5:15 pm.

The re-examination comes in the wake of the paper leak controversy that led to the cancellation of the original NEET-UG test held in May. In response, authorities have put in place one of the most stringent security arrangements seen for a competitive examination in the state.

District officials, in coordination with the police and education departments, have devised a multi-layered security and monitoring mechanism to ensure the examination is conducted in a fair, transparent and malpractice-free manner.

Candidates will be required to undergo several verification procedures before entering examination halls, including identity checks, admit card verification and biometric authentication. Magistrates, police officers and adequate security personnel have been deployed at every examination centre.

To maintain law and order, prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 will be enforced around all examination centres. Unauthorised gatherings, crowding and suspicious activities will be prohibited within a 200-metre radius of the venues. Administrative officials have been instructed to maintain continuous surveillance and ensure strict compliance with examination protocols.

According to sources, the question papers for the re-examination were transported to Ranchi under tight security aboard a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The papers have been stored in secured strong rooms and will be opened only at the designated time under official supervision.

Authorities have also mandated the installation of CCTV cameras at all examination centres, with live monitoring of examination activities throughout the day. Special inspection teams have been formed, while police flying squads and patrol units will remain active to prevent any attempts at malpractice.

Officials said social media platforms will be closely monitored to curb the spread of rumours, misinformation or any attempts to circulate leaked examination material.

In a move aimed at facilitating travel for candidates, the Railways has arranged two special unreserved trains to help students return home after the examination.

The administration has reiterated that mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, calculators and all other electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited inside examination centres. Candidates have been advised to reach their centres well in advance to complete security screening and biometric verification procedures without inconvenience.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) ordered the re-examination after allegations of a paper leak prompted the cancellation of the original NEET-UG 2026 examination. Authorities say the enhanced security framework is intended to restore confidence in the examination process and ensure that the test is conducted in a completely fair and credible manner.
