Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday reviewed preparations for the upcoming Durand Cup football tournament during a meeting with senior Army officials at his residential office on Kanke Road.

Major General Sajjan Singh Mann and Colonel Hemchandra called on the Chief Minister and briefed him on the arrangements being made for the prestigious tournament, which Ranchi is set to host this year. The tournament is expected to begin on July 26.

During the meeting, the Army officials apprised the Chief Minister of the preparations underway, logistical arrangements and coordination being carried out with various departments to ensure the successful conduct of the event. State Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sudivya Kumar was also present.

Soren described the Durand Cup as one of the country’s most historic and prestigious football tournaments and said it was a matter of pride for Jharkhand to host the competition.

“The state’s identity in the field of sports is continuously strengthening at the national and international levels. Hosting major events like the Durand Cup will inspire local players and provide them with better opportunities,” he said.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that all preparations related to the tournament are completed within the stipulated timeframe. He also stressed that adequate arrangements should be made so that participating players, team managements and football enthusiasts do not face any inconvenience during the event.

Reiterating the state’s commitment to sports development, Soren said the Jharkhand government remains fully dedicated to promoting sports and supporting the organization of national and international sporting events in the state.

The Durand Cup, one of Asia’s oldest football tournaments, is expected to draw leading football clubs and teams from across the country, bringing significant sporting attention to Ranchi and Jharkhand.
